NewsWilco cancel upcoming tour datesWilco have been forced to cancel two shows this week due to guitarist Nels Cline contracting the chicken pox. The band were set to play tomorrow (August 14) in Duluth, Minnesota and in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday (15), but have announced the rescheduling of the Duluth show for September 4. The Winnipeg show has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a date in 2008 that has yet to be determined. In a posting on their website, the band wrote: "We're sorry to report that our good friend and Wilco guitarist extraordinaire Nels Cline has recently contracted a rather nasty case of the CHICKEN POX (not sure that should be in all caps... but judging from the gruesome details in email correspondence we've had with NC, we'll leave it so). "He is slowly on the mend but is not quite there yet, necessitating postponement of the Duluth, Minnesota show scheduled for this Tuesday night...the show scheduled for this Wednesday in Winnipeg, Manitoba has also been cancelled, and will be rescheduled for some time in 2008. Refunds will be available at point of purchase. We will post more details as they become available." The remainder of the band's North American tour is set to go ahead as planned. Mercury Records Relaunches Under IDJ Mercury Records, once home to bands like the Cardigans and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, has relaunched as a new division of Island Def Jam (IDJ) Music Group with former Epic Vice President Of A&R David Massey as president. Massey is looking forward to breathing "new life" into the label, which ceased operation in 1999 when PolyGram and Seagram merged. However, Mercury has remained a fully functional label in the UK, home to Shiny Toy Guns and Fall Out Boy's international distribution. According to a statement released today, Massey will oversee all operations of the US hub of the label, and report directly to IDJ Chairman L.A. Reid. "Even more than David's proven leadership and success as an executive in our business is the track record of trust and inspiration he has won from the artists he's worked with over the years," said Reid via the release. "This all-important quality makes him the perfect choice to pilot Mercury through its latest incarnation as a new cornerstone in the IDJ family. We welcome him to the senior management team." Massey previously signed and developed a wide variety of artists ranging from Good Charlotte to Phantom Planet to Cyndi Lauper. There is no confirmation as to which artists will call Mercury their home, or how many releases are slated for this year. Massey will assume his new post on April 16. |
